Be the Bridge Update

January 7, 2026

Greetings Topeka First UMC,

I hope you are having a great Wednesday!

Today's email is meant to update you on our progress for the Be the Bridge capital campaign. As you may remember, there are three primary parts to the renovations and campaign:

  • Inside renovation that includes sanctuary carpet, Klasse Chapel renovation, Celebration room renovation, and Fellowship Hall renovation
    • The inside renovations are almost complete. We have a few change orders that still need to be completed but we are getting close to completing work on the inside of the building.
  • Outside window coverings for the stained glass windows
    • We are hoping to finalize a contract soon. The hope is to get the coverings on the west side of the building completed this year. We will keep you updated!
  • Portico at front entrance. The original idea to build the portico was to 1.) set apart the front door to establish the main entrance and 2.) for safety.
      • While we are certainly disappointed that the portico cannot be built at the main entrance (because of the costly sewer line we told you about in October), we believe that we might have a good plan to move forward. The below picture is an initial rendering of what a portico would look like at the door entering the hallway between the chapel and the courtyard.

    • A safe, dry entrance is important and can be achieved with this new plan. Take a look at the initial rendering and we will discuss this further at the State of the Church meeting on Sunday, February 1 at 6 pm (chili dinner preceeding at 5 pm).

Thank you again for believing in this campaign and for your support. Please reply with comments or questions to me (brad@fumctopeka.org).

Blessings,
Pastor Brad
