While Easter is often seen as an ending–an ending to the Holy Week drama and to Jesus’ earthly life and ministry– it can also be understood as a beginning. In this message, we’ll use the story of Peter’s post-resurrection exchange with Jesus to explore Easter as a beginning of the opportunity that we all have to encounter and respond to the resurrected Christ.

On that first Easter Sunday morning, Mary was devastated to realize the tomb was empty, but as she experienced the presence of the risen Christ, her sorrow turned to celebration. We’ll celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, the good news it is for all people, and the invitation it includes to those who would make and live the decision to follow Jesus.

The story of Palm Sunday begins with the triumphal entrance of Christ into Jerusalem, but that is not the whole story. Once in the city, where he was greeted by crowds shouting hosanna and waving palm branches jubilantly, Jesus is betrayed by his closest followers. Yet, as death approaches, Christ offers us an invitation. An invitation to celebrate the eventual resurrection and life everlasting.

In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus tells the story of the Prodigal Son. This story is well known today, both inside and outside of the church, but is often misunderstood and underappreciated. Through the season of Lent, we’ll use Timothy Keller’s book “The Prodigal God” to explore this story from multiple angles and discover the challenging message that Jesus has for us today, regarding the way in which we relate to God. Worship with us each Sunday at 8:15, 9:30, and 11 a.m., except for March 25th, when we will gather for a pancake feed at 9 a.m. and worship as one for a very special worship experience to celebrate Palm Sunday at 10 a.m.
