In the busy and hyper-individualized world in which we live people are becoming increasingly disconnected. Through these three weeks we will explore questions that at one level or another many people are asking about connections to Christ and Community. Are these connections really worth it? Do they matter? As we reflect on these questions we will tee up the way in which worship through this school year will be designed to help people grow in and share their understanding of God’s work in an through the church.

Title: Why This?

Scripture: Exodus 14:21-31, Ezra 1:1-5 and Ephesians 2:4-10

Theme: The first step in our three-part sermon series is asking the question why do I need Christianity? There are a lot of things that we can lend our minds, time and dedication to in the modern world so why should this thing called Christianity be one of them. By exploring several books of the Bible we will reveal why religion should be an important aspect of our modern lives.

Title: Why Here?

Scripture: Acts 2:42-47

Theme: In this second part of our sermon series we look at why we need a church as part of our spiritual lives. We often hear that people can be strong Christians without a community to build them up and support them, but can we really survive on our own? By returning to the stories of the early church in the book of Acts we will find the importance of having a faith community in our lives.

Title: Why Now?

Scripture: Matthew 22:34-40 and Matthew 28:16-20

Theme: To wrap up our sermon series we will ask the questions why do I need this church and why do I need it now. In the hyper-individualized world in which we live, where all the information we could ever need is at the tip of our fingers, why should we want to be a part of Topeka First United Methodist Church? In our examination of Matthew’s gospel, we will find the answers to that very question.
