Jeff Clinger, Lead Pastor
Jeff grew up in Tonganoxie, Kansas and graduated from Tonganoxie High School. After graduation he attended Nebraska Wesleyan University. While at NWU Jeff studied religion, competed with the speech team, was active in his fraternity, and was a member of Global Service Learning.
After graduating from college, he married Heather Suffron from Lawrence. They moved to Evanston, Illinois to attend Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, a United Methodist school on the campus of Northwestern University. While in seminary he served as the Student Pastor of Whiting United Methodist Church in Whiting, Indiana.
After completing his Master of Divinity, he served in the North Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church. Desiring to be closer to their families as they started a family of their own, Jeff and Heather returned to Kansas in the summer of 2008. Jeff was appointed to serve a year at The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood. He spent a year in the private sector, then served an interim appointment at Easton and Southern Heights UMC in Leavenworth County. In July of 2011 he was appointed as Senior Pastor of Tonganoxie UMC.
Jeff is excited to be part of the Topeka First UMC family since July 2015. He sees great things happening here. He cherishes the opportunity to build relationships in the church and in the greater community. He strives to lead the congregation into the future to which we discern God is calling us.
Jeff is a fan of all kinds of music. He enjoys reading, is a runner, and a fan of KU basketball. Health and balance in life and ministry are very important to Jeff. Over the last several years he has run several ½ marathons and has plans for more. Periodically he enjoys chasing a golf ball around a course.
Jeff and Heather have two elementary-aged kids, Hannah and Joshua. Their family shares their home with Lucy, a goofy boxer/lab mix.
