Dear Topeka First UMC Family,
Greetings from the beautiful campus of Baker University in Baldwin City, KS! I am writing from Senior High Institute, a camping opportunity for senior high youth sponsored by the Great Plains Conference of the United Methodist Church. I am serving as the Spiritual Life Coordinator this week and it has been a great joy to be in community with young people and adult leaders from around the conference.
Tonight we have a closing worship service that leads into a time of celebration and reflection. As a part of tonight’s worship I’ll be inviting young people to consider taking their next step as followers of Jesus. For some this might mean saying yes to Jesus for the first time and committing to live as a disciple. For others this might mean taking steps to become more involved in living and sharing their faith in their home church. For some this might mean the possibility of exploring professional ministry as a calling. I invite you to join me in praying for these young people that they would be open to the movement of God’s spirit in their lives.
I hope that you have had a wonderful week and have continued to experiment with opportunities to intentionally bless and intentionally eat with at least three different persons (at least one of whom is not connected to our church family) in the last week. I also hope you have been able to find an intentional time to be still and quiet and to listen for and to the Spirit’s guidance.
As the week of Institute winds down I am equal parts exhausted and energized. Please do continue to be praying for everyone involved in Institute through the rest of the day today and tomorrow.
I’m looking forward to being back with you in worship on Sunday as we continue our “Living Questionable Lives” series and I’m looking forward to the all church pool party on Sunday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Garfield Park Pool (1600 NE Quincy).
Have a great weekend and I’ll see you Sunday!
Grace and Peace,
Topeka First United Methodist Church
