Special Events

Come to Topeka First United Methodist Church on Sunday, September 10 for our Fall Kick-Off!

At 9 a.m., parents and students in 7th-12th Grade are invited to the Youth Breakfast to find out what Ruth Smith, Director of Youth Discipleship, has in store for our teenagers in the coming year.

At 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., our Safari Guides will welcome you to the Children’s Area for an exploration of our Sunday morning Children’s programming. Expect surprises and snacks in each room! This is a great chance to learn about what our Children and volunteers do on Sunday mornings and the resources we have available. Bring a friend!

When you’re done with your Safari, head back to the Celebration Room to peruse the array of fair-trade, organic coffees, teas, chocolates, olive oil, and snacks on our Equal Exchange table. Volunteers from our Missions Team sell these gourmet foods once a month to empower small-scale farmers in developing countries with fair wages and prices for their goods. Who knew justice tasted so good?

At 9:30 a.m., Sunday School will resume for all ages! Children ages 3-6th grade will meet in their classrooms on the second floor in the Children’s Area. Seventh-12th graders will meet in the new Youth Rooms on the first floor. Adults meet in various rooms throughout the first floor and lower levels. Check out our page about Sunday Morning Clasees to see how you can connect with a group. If you would be interested in joining a new class during the 11 a.m. hour, meet Tiwana Whitten, Director of Adult Discipleship, in the Hearth Room at 10:30 a.m. for a meeting to gauge interest and make plans.

At 10:30 a.m., follow your nose to find popcorn in the Celebration Room during our Coffee Connection time. This will be a relaxing time to meet those new and old to Topeka First UMC over refreshments. Information about our fall activities will be available. Equal Exchange items will again be on sale.

At 4 p.m., Phase 2 (our Baby Boomers group) invites all 7th-12th graders for “Grillin’ in the Garden.” Share some laughs as we fire up the grill at this intergenerational cookout–complete with games–to kick off the fall season.

And as always, we invite you to worship with us at 8:15 and 9:30 a.m. in the Chapel, or at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary!
