Wifi Networks

Anytime you are in the church building you have access to WiFi. Using WiFi can be a cost savings to you in that you can access internet without using the data on your personal cell phone plan.
We have 5 WiFi routers set up enabling you to access a strong signal from nearly anyplace in our building. A router is piece of equipment that sends the internet signal to your cell phone or tablet.
The routers are in our building are called:
  • Mul1st2
  • Mul1st5–This router is located in the Mulvane building between rooms 106 and 105 (Bishop Frank Forum.)
  • Mul2nd2
  • Mul2nd5–This router is located in the 2nd floor children’s library.
  • CelRm2
  • CelRm5–This router is located in the Nursery area.
  • FelHal2
  • FelHal5–This router is located in Fellowship Hall
  • Sanc2
  • Sanc5–This router is located in our new office area.
Since these routers have no password, in most cases your device should automatically find the router with the strongest signal and closest to your location. As you travel through the building, your device should automatically switch to the closest router.
When accessing these routers manually through the settings tab on your device, there are two channels to choose from. Any channel ending in 2 will have a longer range and may be a little more reliable for you. If the channel ends in 5, this will be a faster connection, but if you are moving around the building, you could lose this connection quicker.

Once you have connected to one of our WiFi networks, moving from space to space becomes easy.  It is not likely, but possible that you may need to access ALL routers in the building and connect manually first in order for this process to begin occurring automatically.

With any questions, contact Tina Boles in the church office at 785-233-8100.

Accessing Church Calendar

Accessing the Church Calendar
There are three ways in which you can access information regarding daily activities at the church. You can use your smart phone, log in to our church connection portal, or simply visit our website.
Smart Phone
Go to the Church Life app. Tap the three bars at the top left corner and select calendar. This will bring the calendar up in a list form. If you would like to see activities further into the future, simply scroll to the bottom of the screen and select Show 50 more.
If you find an activity in which you are interested and want more information, simply tap that entry. This will give you a description, location, and any other pertinent information. If you would like to add this event to your personal calendar, simply tap add in the top right corner of your screen.
There is a small funnel at the top of your phone screen. If you touch that you can filter calendar items based on your interests.
If you tap on the small calendar icon on the top right corner, it changes your view from a list style to a standard calendar style. You can use up/down arrows to scroll to the following or previous month, or use the left/right arrows to advance years. If you touch a day on the calendar, it will bring up a list of activities for that day.
Tune in next week to learn to register for an event from your smart phone.
Computer
Log in to the Church Connection Portal. Calendar appears on your dashboard. You can use the previous and next buttons to advance to future months. Click on a date to view activities for that day. Once you have an activity list for that day, you can click on that event, then click “view more details” to gain more information.
Once you are looking at the detailed information, if you want to attend the event, click on Register at the top right and follow on screen instructions.

Registering for Events Using Your Smartphone

Are you interested in attending an event at the church, but need to register? You can easily register and pay for this event using your Smart Phone.

Go to the Church Life app. Tap the three bars at the top left corner and select Register. Find the event in which you would like to attend. When you tap on the event, your family will be listed on the screen. Change each individual attending by tapping the down arrow next to “not registered,” look to the bottom of the screen and choose event.
In some cases, such as a dinner, there may be more than one choice. For example, there may be options for children’s versus adults’ dinner prices. Simply choose the appropriate option. Touch “done.” Do this for each member of your family that will attend.
If you would like to bring a guest, there is an “add” button at the bottom of the screen and you can add people by simply typing their name and follow on-screen directions. Tap “next” and you will see where confirmation will be emailed.
If there is a cost associated with event, charges will appear on the next screen, and you will be given options for payment.

Tech Talk: Accessing People Directory on Mac/PC

Many of you have begun using the Church Life app, but there are also other ways to access directory information. If you are sitting at home surfing the Internet, the directory can be accessed through our website.
Enter our web address, www.forthegoodofthecity.org, in the address line. Then navigate to the top right corner of the screen to our “Church Connection Portal.”
At this point, you should already have an account created. Scroll down to the box that reads “Click here to log into Church Connection Portal.” Login in using your email address and password. This will be the same information used for your Church Life app. This will bring you to a dashboard with a great deal of valuable information. Tap on Directories. This will allow you to search for a family or an individual. Choose either. Simply type a last name or a first name in the box (both are not necessary) and you will be given a list of people to choose from. Click on the appropriate person’s name to view their demographic information. This could take a couple of seconds to load.
If you are looking at your own demographic information, you may make changes. Simply click on the pencils beside each category and make the change. If you would like to add additional information such as a business phone, simply click Add and follow the on screen directions. These changes will not be immediate. They will come through the church office for updating. This could take 24-48 hours depending on church office hours.
If you click on Directories on the menu bar, then Directories again in the drop-down menu you may view the full church directory Online. This can be viewed by family or individual, with or without photos. Take time to explore and enjoy and if needed update your own personal information.
As always, if you have questions you can call Tina at the church office: 785-233-8100

Tech Talk: Church Life App-People

In the last Tech Talk we explained downloading the Church Life App for your SmartPhone and registering to use the Church Connection Portal on your Mac or PC. This time we want to get into some details.

Using your SmartPhone, log into the Church Life App. Once you have logged in the first time, the app remembers your information and you shouldn’t have to log in again. When you touch the icon for the church life app, it should take you straight to the “people” screen.

To search for a church member, touch the box that reads “search;” this will bring up a keyboard at the bottom of your screen. Type all or part of either first or last name, and touch the button that reads “search.”  This will bring up a list of possibilities.

Tap the member you are looking for and their demographic information should appear on your screen. If you touch their picture, the picture will enlarge. If you touch their phone number you will be asked if you want to call or text that number. If you touch their email address, you will be sent to your mail system and their address will be in the “to” line. If you touch the address, AND you have google maps installed on your mobile device, you will be given directions to their home.

For iPhone, to get back to the demographic information from any of the above screens, simply touch the small “church” in the top left corner of the screen. For android, tap the curved arrow button at the bottom right corner of your screen.

There is a small box with a person in it near the top right corner of the screen. On an iPhone, if you touch this it will ask if you want to add that person to your personal contacts on your phone. On an Android, touching that button simply places that person’s information in your contacts.

Tapping the pencil in the top right corner of the screen allows you to change your own demographic information rather than calling the church office. To change your current address or phone number, simply touch that portion of the screen and follow the on screen directions. If you do this, please know the results will not be immediate. These changes will notify church staff for approval before they take effect.
