At the close of the Great Plains Annual Conference last Saturday, it became official that I will return for a fourth year as your Lead Pastor. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving with Topeka First UMC and look forward to seeing how God continues to guide us as a community in the coming year!
Tonight is the last of our movie nights connected to our “At the Movies” series. Everyone is invited to Fellowship Hall at 5:30 p.m. for pizza, and at 6 p.m. we will watch The Little Mermaid. I am looking forward to being together for dinner and a movie tonight and to preaching on this movie Sunday.
This weekend in worship, we will recognize Rev. Shawn O’Trimble at all three services. Shawn has been appointed to serve at Topeka First UMC since the summer of 2013. Since May of 2017, his work has been exclusively focused on the Oakland UMC and Kansas Avenue UMC congregations, to which he is also appointed. On June 30 of this year, Shawn’s appointment to Topeka First UMC will officially end, though we will continue to provide financial support for his appointment through the next year. There will be a reception for Shawn in the Celebration Room with cake and a basket to collect cards. If Shawn’s ministry has impacted you over these last years, I invite you to make it a point to be present on Sunday and to bring a card.
This Sunday afternoon and Monday, our staff and leadership are holding a calendaring retreat offsite to talk about plans for the 2018-2019 school year. We will worship together, eat together, play together, and work through conversation about various things coming through this next year. I am excited to spend this time dreaming and planning with church leadership. Please be in prayer for the leadership of the church and this time we’ll be spending together.
Finally, our congregation will take a mission trip to Guatemala in June of 2019 (the 15-23). We held an informational meeting earlier this week, and spots can be secured on the trip by making a deposit by July 26. If you’re interested in attending or have questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
I look forward to seeing you tonight for the movie night and for worship on Sunday.
